What is Advertising

Definition- Advertising is a form of communication that typically attempts to persuade potential customers to purchase or to consume more of a particular brand of product or service.

Traffic generation is needed to boost advertising efforts. Social bookmarking is one avenue. Blogging is one too. Pay-per-click is another. There is a lot more that we will discuss in later hubs.

What does that mean to you as an internet business?

Traffic generation is a form of advertising; let’s say that you have 16000 visitors to your site. What’s the point of having those 16000 visitors?

Those visitors have friends and relatives – don’t they? Maybe some of those visitors tell those relatives about your site. Those friends and relatives have other friends and relatives too. Let’s say that each one of those 16000 visitors tells 3 friends/relatives about your site. 3 X 16000 = 48000. In reality you just gained 48000 visitors! And if the 48000 tell their friends/relatives about your site, Etc.

But traffic alone is not the main purpose of advertising…

In marketing, a conversion occurs when a prospective customer takes the marketer's intended action. If the prospect has visited a marketer's web site, the conversion action might be making an online purchase, or submitting a form to request additional information. The conversion rate is the percentage of visitors who take the conversion action.

So in other words, conversions are the people from the 16000 (48000) people that purchase your product or service! Cash in Hand!

Social bookmarking is a method for internet users to store, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of web pages on the internet with the help of metadata, typically in the form of tags that collectively and/or collaboratively become social tagging, which in essence is a form of shared content.

If you share your bookmarks of your internet site with others, you are advertising your site so that people can go to your bookmark and see if they want to visit your site!

A Blog (a contraction of the term weblog) is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Posting links to your blog will advertise your site as well. Sharing your site with your friends/fans will promote your site in the same manner as traffic generation does.

Pay per click (PPC) is an internet advertising model used on search engines, advertising networks, and content sites, such as blogs, in which advertisers pay their host only when their ad is clicked. With search engines, advertisers typically bid on keyword phrases relevant to their target market. Content sites commonly charge a fixed price per click rather than use a bidding system.

Pay-Per-Click (PPC) is a direct approach to advertising. You can target only the people that are interested in your specific product/service.

Adsense is an advertisement application run by Google. Website owners can enroll in this program to enable text, image, and more recently, video advertisements on their websites. These advertisements are administered by Google and generate revenue on either a per-click or per-impression basis.

You can generate a lot of income from Adsense, if you do the program correctly.

As you can see there is many avenues to advertising that are at your disposal.  Don’t pass up an opportunity to advertise.  The more you use the better!

Advertising can greatly increase your income, if people know about your products/services they are more willing to purchase from you.

Remember the customer is always right, so treat them fairly and you will have a lot of repeat customers and new ones as well!
